Kirsty has been employed as artist in residence at Braunstone School since September 2010.

“Each term I facilitate whole day art workshops with every class in the school. Every workshop is tailored to the requirements of the class teacher. The work produced provides permanent and temporary displays within the school.”

The themes are related to current topics, or for teachers to learn and experience different arts materials and techniques which they are unfamiliar with; or both.

“These workshops give the children the opportunity to spend a whole day making a work of art which enables them to explore the creative process through all stages of development, culminating in a final piece of work.

The children gain a tremendous sense of achievement from these workshops building their confidence and boosting their creative imagination, which develops their learning in other areas of the curriculum.

They are extremely proud of the work they have done and show great respect for all the art on display in the school.”

The following is a quote from the 2012 OFSTED report for Braunstone Community Primary School

“Display throughout the school confirms pupils high attainment in art, which is due to the outstanding teaching of the specialist art teacher.”
